How to Properly Wash Your Face

By Kira's Mum, 10/20/2014 - 13:07
The First Step to Healthy Skin
If there's one step in your skincare routine you should try your very best NOT to skip, it is without doubt proper cleansing, both morning and night (even if you’ve been out all night and all you want to do is fall into bed).
Truth is, if you make this effort to properly cleanse your face, you will notice a drastic improvement in your skin’s complexion.
Vines and Roots is an advocate of cleansing with care, which is why we take extra caution in selecting only the best natural and organic cleansers and toners that nurture skin and do not strip skin of its precious protective oils. SHOP NOW!
Picking the Right Cleanser
Depending on your skin type,  lifestyle and the climate you live in, you need to pick a pH-balanced cleanser that’s perfect for your face.
But no matter what kind of skin you have, make sure the ingredients list does NOT contain fragrance (which can be irritating); parabens (toxic preservatives); sulfates (harsh detergents that strip your skin of its natural oils) or harsh soap (it's drying).
A. Cleansing Milk
Victorian Garden pH balanced Cleansing Milks are formulated to mix with the oils of your skin to whisk away dirt and make-up. These creamy cleansers are ultra gentle. Regular use of this cleanser allows your skin to re-balance and regulate sebum production suited to your skin’s needs.
Recommended for dry air, winter months, aging skin or gentle daily cleansing.
Victorian Garden Cleansing Milks are available for different skin types - Sensitive, Normal, Dry and Oily.
B. Foaming Wash
Victorian Garden Foaming Face Washes (available in English Lavender or Rosemary & Kalahari Melon) work up a silky lather and unclog pores to remove all traces of dirt and make-up, leaving your skin squeaky clean. pH balanced and suited for all skin types, this cleanser may be used daily or less frequently along side a Cleansing Milk to deep clean and revitalise skin. These cleansers are also often the choice of those who prefer the feeling of soapy foaminess, without actually using conventional soap washes.
Particularly suitable for warm weather, humid conditions, younger skins or problem skin.
Cleanse Your Way to Healthy Skin
1. Wash Your Hands Then Wash Your Face
Always make sure your hands are clean. Dirty hands mean that you’re trying to cleanse your skin with, well, dirty hands. Wash your hands first, then wash your face.
2. Perfect Water Temperature
Use lukewarm water and a dime-size amount of cleanser. Lukewarm will help to soften the skin. If the water is too hot, it can cause broken capillaries and dry out your skin; while too cold can prevent the pores from loosening up.
3. 30 Second-Massage To Improve Your Skin
Using your fingertips, massage in circular motions the cleanser into the skin, without scrubbing. Just 30 seconds of facial massage while you cleanse reduces puffiness and jowliness.
4. Rinse Thoroughly
Rinse your skin with lukewarm water and follow with a cold water splash. The cold water tightens pores and it is a revitalizing energy boost for your skin. Gently pat your face with a dry towel.
5. Tone
Use a toner (make sure it is alcohol-free) after cleansing to help refine the skin and help with pH balance. Toning is a great way to refreshen your skin as well as removing any dirt your cleanser failed to pick up. Victoria Garden toners can also be used as a nourishing spritzer to refresh and brighten skin during the day.
TIP: Keep the toner in the fridge to give your skin an even more refreshing feel.
The Victorian Garden uses aromatherapy based toners high in vitamins and nutrients to effectively suit different skin types - dry, normal/combination and sensitive.
As the foundation of your skincare routine we cannot emphasize enough how IMPORTANT this first step is, and how worthwhile the benefits are of doing this right.
Your skin will love you for it!
